Delegation of S. Korean flagship university visits KPI

Lee Yang Goo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine, and representatives of the Gyeongsang National University (GNU) visited the Kiev Polytechnic Institute named for Igor Sikorsky (KPI) on November 23. Specifically, the GNU delegation included Prof. Soon-Ki Kwon, ex-president of this university, Prof. Hyeon Te Kim of the Smart Farm Research Center, and staff member Kwak Sooryun.

The visit of the Korean guests began with a tour of the KPI campus and the State Polytechnic Museum. Afterwards they met with Yuri Yakimenko, KPI First Vice-Rector and member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU); Sergey Sidorenko, Vice-Rector for International Affairs and NASU corresponding member; Igor Litvinov, Deputy Vice-Rector for Science; and Andrei Shisholin, Head of the Foreign Economic Activity Office; among others.

The participants in the meeting discussed the expansion of cooperation in the realm of new materials, nanotechnologies, smart-technologies, IT, etc. At the end of the meeting, the participants reached an understanding to draft the framework agreement that would outline the items and areas of possible joint projects.

GNU is the flagship university of South Korea, consisting of 14 colleges and eight graduate schools with some 25,000 students across three campuses, including 1,000 international students. In 2016, GNU was recognized as the most innovative university in South Korea.
