Согласно сообщениям СМИ, экс-президент Пётр Порошенко намеренно уклонился от уплаты налогов, приобретая телевизионный канал "Прямой" (бывший "Тонис") через бывшего депутата Верховного Совета Украины Владимира Макеенко. Формальным владельцем канала является оффшорная компания на Кипре.
В уголовном деле помимо "уклонения" фигурирует также статья о легализации (отмывании) доходов, полученных преступным путём, а это в перспективе более серьёзное подозрение. Порошенко грозит от семи до 12 лет.

KPI to train nuclear experts
In connection with the closure of the Sevastopol National Institute of Nuclear Energy and Industry in 2015, Ukraine has been in need to organize training of specialists with higher education in the field of physical protection, accounting and control of nuclear materials.
At the same time, experts in nuclear security are in great demand at enterprises and institutions operating in the nuclear power sector, central executive agencies managing and regulating the use of nuclear energy, state law-enforcement and special-purpose authorities, among others.
Ukraine has all capabilities to create the system of training and offer extension courses in physical nuclear security.
In April 2015, experts at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (incentivized and supported by the U.S. Department of Energy) carried out the initial assessment of the ability of Ukrainian universities to create a national system for training nuclear security specialists, and particularly the Kiev Polytechnic Institute named for Igor Sikorsky (KPI) has been pinpointed to serve these purposes.
The Ministry of Power Engineering and Coal Industry of Ukraine initiated a number of meetings, involving the representatives of Ukrainian universities and stakeholders (the national nuclear energy generating company Energoatom, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine). As a result, it was decided to organize a master's degree program in the specialty 143 Atomic Energetics at the Nuclear Power Plants and Engineering Thermal Physics Department of the KPI Faculty of Heat and Power Engineering, which has a license to train such specialists and received full accreditation.
An important factor in making this decision was the fact that practical training in this area will be provided at the George Kuzmycz Training Center for Physical Protection, Control and Accounting of Nuclear Materials of the Institute for Nuclear Research under the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Cooperation Agreement # 0/1500/07 of March 4, 2019), which has the requisite equipment and a testing ground.
International institutions made a weighty contribution to the organization of the master's degree program in physical protection, accounting and control of nuclear materials.
Owing to the support of the U.S. Department of Energy, the KPI teaching staff received practical training in the implementation of the above master's degree program at the Texas Tech University and the U.S. Sandia National Laboratories, they also participated in IAEA training courses, and training materials of 15 relevant courses were developed as well.
The International Security Policy Bureau, Global Affairs Canada, and the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority allocated the funds to KPI to establish and equip a scientific and educational laboratory designed for physical nuclear security.

ГРИВНА, РОССИЙСКИЙ РУБЛЬ УКРЕПИЛИСЬ ПО ОТНОШЕНИЮ К ДОЛЛАРУ СИЛЬНЕЕ ВСЕХ ВАЛЮТ
Согласно данным рейтинга Global Foreign Exchange Rates, с начала текущего года гривна укрепилась по отношению к доллару сильнее всех остальных валют мира - на 9,1%. На втором месте - российский рубль (8,3%), на третьем - египетский фунт (8%), на четвёртом - тайский бат (4,9%) и на пятом - канадский доллар (3,2%).
Эксперты отмечают три основных фактора, которые способствовали укреплению гривны. Во-первых, на мировом рынке подорожали цены на важнейшие товары украинского экспорта - зерно и руду, соответственно, экспортная выручка значительно выросла, и на Украину активно пошли доллары и евро.
Во-вторых, кругленькие суммы из-за границы поступили в связи с выборами. Поскольку украинцы пережили президентскую и парламентскую избирательные кампании, то этих денег появилось на финансовом рынке страны довольно-таки много. Однако определяющим экономисты называют третий фактор - это то, что Национальный банк Украины выпустил облигации государственного займа по завышенным процентным ставкам.

УЧЁНЫЕ ИЗ ДАНИИ, НОРВЕГИИ ВНИКАЛИ В ТАЙНЫ ПРЕДСМЕРТНЫХ ВИДЕНИЙ
Даниэль Кондзейла, невролог из Университета Копенгагена, обнародовал результаты масштабного исследования, проведённого вместе с коллегами из Дании, Германии и Норвегии. Он доложил их участникам недавнего конгресса Европейской академии неврологии, который прошёл в Осло.
Исследователи вникали в тайны предсмертных видений, или околосмертного опыта, как ещё называют этот феномен (Near-Death Experience - NDE в английском сокращении). Они обнаружили, что с ним сталкивались 10% обследованных людей - в основном из числа тех, которым грозили смерть либо смертельная опасность.
Кондзейла с коллегами собрали свидетельства 1034 человек из 35 стран. Об NDE сообщили 289 опрошенных. Последующий анализ их рассказов продемонстрировал: 106 можно доверять полностью.

No smoking, otherwise tighten belts
In Ukraine, the police fine those who smoke in prohibited areas. More than 4,000 people, who smoked in smoke-free areas, have been fined in Kiev over the course of six months.
According to Alexander Pabat, member of the Kiev city council, local smokers paid 94,033 grivnas (grn) worth of fines into a municipal budget over the course of six months. This year police officers drew up 4,297 reports on the cigarette fiends who enjoy puffing away like chimneys in public places, compared with 6,596 reports to the total amount of 131,666 grn in 2018.
The fine for smoking in a prohibited area ranges from three to 10 tax-exempt minimum incomes (between 51 and 170 grn). In case of a repeated violation, a fine of 10 to 20 tax-exempt minimum incomes (from 170 to 340 grn) is imposed.
It is worth noting too that cigarette butts can take years to decompose, during which time they release heavy metals and pollutants. These toxic substances are harmful to surrounding flora and fauna, and when swept or thrown into gutters they also pollute the water.

В Канаде на одного жителя в год приходится 36 тонн отходов (считаются не только бытовые, но и промышленные), а в Болгарии - 26,7 тонн. Дальше картина выглядит так: Эстония - 23,5 тонны мусора на человека; Финляндия - 16,6 тонны; Армения - 16,3 тонны; Швеция - 16,2 тонны; Люксембург - 11,8 тонны; Украина - 10,6 тонны; и Сербия - 8,9 тонны.

Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan look like provinces of China
Today Kyrgyzstan is swarming with thousands of Chinese farmers and ubiquitous eateries serving Chinese food. Hooked on low-interest loans given by Beijing, the Central Asian nation of 6.2 million people looks like the province of China.
As far as Sino-Tajik relations are concerned, in 2011 Tajikistan ceded 4% or 1,158 square kilometers of its land in the remote Pamir mountain range, the size of Albania, to China on the disputed section of the border between the two countries. Reportedly, 100,000 Chinese workers flooded this former Soviet state to build roads. In Tajikistan, a Chinese company is majority owner of the largest gold mine.

In Kazakhstan, Chinese investors buy oil, gas companies
Reportedly, China exports annually goods worth $15 billion to Kazakhstan. Chinese investors are actively purchasing oil and gas companies in this former Soviet republic.
According to various sources, 20-50% of Kazakh oil belongs to Chinese businessmen. At present, the Chinese produce more than 17 million tons of oil in Kazakhstan.
Chinese restaurants are mushrooming in the capital city of Kazakhstan, and they are not faced with a shortage of visitors. Over the course of one year alone, 12,000 citizens of China received the right to work in the former Soviet republic. The Chinese account for 38% of all migrant workers in Kazakhstan, while the rumor runs that 400,000 unskilled laborers with Chinese passports illegally penetrated into the country.
