Poroshenko suffers setback because of personnel policy, rampant corruption

According to political analysts, Petro Poroshenko suffered a major setback as personnel policy knocked down his positions.

His approval rating began to fall when the Ministry of Information Policy was established in 2015. As a matter of fact, this government department with dubious functions was expressly designed for Yuri Stets, godfather to one of Poroshenko's children. Similarly, Ukrainian legislation was changed in 2016 so that another godfather, namely Yuri Lutsenko, who has no juridical background, could grab the office of prosecutor-general. Established in 2018, the Ministry for Veterans Affairs was designed for his former press secretary Irina Friz.

Poroshenko’s supporters decreased in number after his eldest son had become a deputy of the Supreme Council of Ukraine.

In recent years journalists have been observing the inefficient fight against rampant corruption in Poroshenko’s entourage. For instance, Igor Kononenko, army friend, business partner and former head of Poroshenko’s parliamentary faction, as well as Oleg Gladkovsky, another business partner and former deputy secretary of the Security and Defense Council, became the villains of an anticorruption investigation. Observers said that instead of putting the cronies behind bars or chopping corrupt officials Poroshenko appointed them to high public offices so as to facilitate them feeding at the public trough.
