Three concrete roads to be built in Ukraine in 2018

Some 30% of roadways are paved with concrete in the European Union, compared with only 1.4% in Ukraine. Whereas asphalt roads require a major overhaul every five years, the concrete ones can serve for 20 years.

According to Pavel Kachur, head of the association UkrCement, requirements for the groundwork of asphalt and concrete roadways are 99% the same while concrete is twice cheaper than asphalt. Plans are afoot to build three 232-kilometer concrete roads in Ukraine this year. Data from the state road agency UkrAvtodor show that the project is estimated at 5.4 billion grivnas.

Interestingly, the first concrete roadway in this country, namely the Zhitomir bypass, will be built by Sinohydro Corporation Limited of China. The Chinese company has estimated its work on the road at 42.3 million euros. Bloomberg notes that Sinohydro Corporation, through its subsidiaries, engages in construction and installation activities, including road works, motorways and long-span bridges.
