Ukraine's government has supported the proposal made by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources to develop Chernobyl's exclusion zone as a territory for changes and innovations. In particular, Kiev took the course of applying wind-power technologies in Chernobyl.
Importantly, the area still has the infrastructure required for delivering large amounts of energy because transmission lines from the old nuclear reactor remain in place. Also, the area still has personnel with training in generating and distributing electricity.
According to ecology minister Ostap Semerak, the Chernobyl zone has a high level of investment attractiveness. This fact is proved by investors from Denmark, China, Germany, France and Byelorussia, among others. More than 60 applications for the allocation of land parcels in the exclusion zone to implement renewable energy projects have been submitted over the course of two years.

Delegation of S. Korean flagship university visits KPI
Lee Yang Goo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine, and representatives of the Gyeongsang National University (GNU) visited the Kiev Polytechnic Institute named for Igor Sikorsky (KPI) on November 23. Specifically, the GNU delegation included Prof. Soon-Ki Kwon, ex-president of this university, Prof. Hyeon Te Kim of the Smart Farm Research Center, and staff member Kwak Sooryun.
The visit of the Korean guests began with a tour of the KPI campus and the State Polytechnic Museum. Afterwards they met with Yuri Yakimenko, KPI First Vice-Rector and member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU); Sergey Sidorenko, Vice-Rector for International Affairs and NASU corresponding member; Igor Litvinov, Deputy Vice-Rector for Science; and Andrei Shisholin, Head of the Foreign Economic Activity Office; among others.
The participants in the meeting discussed the expansion of cooperation in the realm of new materials, nanotechnologies, smart-technologies, IT, etc. At the end of the meeting, the participants reached an understanding to draft the framework agreement that would outline the items and areas of possible joint projects.
GNU is the flagship university of South Korea, consisting of 14 colleges and eight graduate schools with some 25,000 students across three campuses, including 1,000 international students. In 2016, GNU was recognized as the most innovative university in South Korea.

УКРАИНЕ НУЖНО СЛЕЗТЬ С "ИГЛЫ" МВФ
По мнению Петра Пушкарёва, шефа-аналитика группы компаний TeleTrade, чтобы ускорить рост ВВП Украины, нужно слезть с "иглы" МВФ. Учитывая опыт России после 1998 года, аналитик не исключает, что даже сценарий дефолта с признанием невозможности платить по долгам может оказаться для страны полезнее, чем дальнейшее их накопление. Всё равно придётся расписаться в неплатёжеспособности.

ДЕЛЕГАЦИЯ КОРЕЙСКОГО УНИВЕРСИТЕТА КЁНСАН ПОСЕТИЛА КПИ
Визит главы дипломатического представительства Республики Корея в Украине и представителей одного из самых известных университетов этой страны начался с ознакомительной экскурсии по КПИ и посещения Государственного политехнического музея. После этого с гостями встретились первый проректор университета академик Национальной академии наук Украины Юрий Якименко, проректор член-корреспондент НАН Украины Сергей Сидоренко, заместитель проректора по научной работе Игорь Литвинов, начальник отдела внешнеэкономической деятельности Андрей Шишолин и другие.
Национальный университет Кёнсан является одним из лидеров высшего образования Южной Кореи. В нём открыто 14 колледжей и восемь высших школ. Здесь учатся 25 тысяч студентов, в том числе тысяча иностранцев. В 2016 году он был признан лучшим инновационным университетом страны.
Участники встречи обсудили вопросы развёртывания сотрудничества в области новых материалов, нанотехнологий, smart-технологий, IT и т.д.
В заключение была достигнута договорённость о подготовке рамочного соглашения, в котором будут нормированы вопросы и направления дальнейшей совместной работы.

KPI administration meets innovative players from U.S., China
Representatives of the administration of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute (KPI) named for Igor Sikorsky and its several subdivisions met with the delegation of innovative players from the United States and China on November 8.
The delegation included Victor Korsun and Douglas Graham, U.S. founders of the Ideation Innovation Management Platform; Rosana Wong, executive director of Hong Kong based Yau Lee Holdings Limited; Yau Lee representative Tony Leung; and Professor Wong. As far as the KPI representatives are concerned, Rector Mikhail Zgurovsky; Mikhail Ilchenko, Vice-Rector for Research; Konstantin Yefremov, director of the World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development; and Sergey Pukha, chief designer of the design bureau Storm; among others, took part in the meeting.
The participants in the meeting discussed the establishment of joint laboratories on the basis of the university, which would focus on the areas of common interest. In particular, the potential areas of interest could be the space technologies of monitoring the Earth's surface, and sustainable development projects involving smart mobility. Therefore, the guests heard the presentations of a program for building and orbiting KPI nanosatellites; the project of forming a grouping of microsatellites for Earth remote sensing; as well as projects implemented by the World Data Center, including scientific foresight studies. In addition, the delegation got an insight into the set-up and activities of the innovation ecosystem Sikorsky Challenge, and about the project of planning the Polyteco Science City.
At the end of the meeting, its participants touched upon some questions concerning the organization of the work of joint laboratories and agreed to prepare concrete proposals for their establishment.

Lion's share of dried vegetables exported from Ukraine to Poland, Montenegro
Data from the State Fiscal Service show that Ukraine has exported 73 tons of dried vegetables from January through September, compared with only 40 tons in the same period last year. In money terms the exports amounted to $552,000 during the period under review versus $369,000 in January-September 2017. The lion's share of dried vegetables produced in Ukraine is exported to Poland (44.6%), Montenegro (19.8%) and Italy (9.2%).

Share of food waste in total export from Ukraine makes up 2.6%
Reportedly, Ukraine is actively exporting food waste. According to the State Statistics Service, the food waste has accounted for 2.6% of total exports from January through May.
The geography of this export stretches from India and Turkey to Italy and Spain. In particular, Ukraine exports sunflower oilcakes, bones and by-products from the meat industry, buttermilk and whey from dairies. Foreign partners use this food waste to produce animal feed, recycle it in the food industry, fertilize fields, as well as utilize it in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
