Lion's share of dried vegetables exported from Ukraine to Poland, Montenegro

Data from the State Fiscal Service show that Ukraine has exported 73 tons of dried vegetables from January through September, compared with only 40 tons in the same period last year. In money terms the exports amounted to $552,000 during the period under review versus $369,000 in January-September 2017. The lion's share of dried vegetables produced in Ukraine is exported to Poland (44.6%), Montenegro (19.8%) and Italy (9.2%).

Share of food waste in total export from Ukraine makes up 2.6%

Reportedly, Ukraine is actively exporting food waste. According to the State Statistics Service, the food waste has accounted for 2.6% of total exports from January through May.

The geography of this export stretches from India and Turkey to Italy and Spain. In particular, Ukraine exports sunflower oilcakes, bones and by-products from the meat industry, buttermilk and whey from dairies. Foreign partners use this food waste to produce animal feed, recycle it in the food industry, fertilize fields, as well as utilize it in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

Как сообщил Остап Семерак, министр экологии и природных ресурсов Украины, за два года на электронную карту свалок, которую ведомство запустило в сентябре 2016 года, граждане прислали около пяти тысяч сообщений о выявленных стихийных свалках. Больше всего их поступило из Киевской (1,125 тыс.), Харьковской (380) и Днепропетровской (350) областей.

В результате местными властями было убрано около половины свалок, а более тысячи заявок находятся на стадии выполнения. Кроме того, в 700 случаях выполнение просрочено, но оно на контроле, и примерно одна тысяча заявок проверяется. При этом электронная карта свалок постоянно обновляется.

Добавить информацию может любой гражданин Украины. Для этого достаточно:

- скачать мобильное приложение "Экомапа" с функцией онлайн-оповещений об обнаруженных свалках;

- сфотографировать обнаруженную свалку;

- отправить фото через приложение "Экомапа" с указанием местонахождения стихийной свалки.

Removing debt noose may be good news for Ukrainians but...

According to economic expert Andrei Blinov, Ukraine cannot avoid a currency crisis. However, it is possible to stem 50-100% devaluation of the grivna, as is the case in some countries with often-in-trouble currencies such as the lira and the peso. The grivna's depreciation compounds the problem, leading inflation to sky-rocket.

Mr. Blinov believes it is necessary to prevent the growth of the budget deficit and extend gradually the public debt maturity, and only in this way would it be possible to remove a tight noose from around the neck of Ukrainians in terms of the debt.

In addition, much depends on the export situation. So far, Ukraine has a favorable balance of foreign trade in its products. The export receipts of Ukrainian goods increase by more than 11% this year.

However, how bad things will get in Ukraine is a subject of uncertainty.

В КПИ СОСТОЯЛАСЬ ВСТРЕЧА С ПРЕДСТАВИТЕЛЯМИ ИННОВАЦИОННЫХ СТРУКТУР ИЗ США, КИТАЯ

8 ноября представители руководства Киевского политехнического института (КПИ) имени Игоря Сикорского и нескольких его подразделений встретились с делегацией представителей инновационных структур из США и КНР.

Со стороны гостей во встрече приняли участие основатели "Ideation Innovation Management Platform" Виктор Корсун и Дуглас Грэм (США), исполнительный директор компании «Yau Lee» Росана Вонг (КНР, Гонконг), представитель компании «Yau Lee» Тони Леунг и профессор Вонг. Со стороны КПИ - ректор Михаил Згуровский, проректор по научной работе Михаил Ильченко, директор Мирового центра данных по геоинформатике и устойчивому развитию Константин Ефремов, главный конструктор конструкторского бюро «Шторм» Сергей Пуха и другие.

Участники встречи обсудили вопросы создания на базе университета совместных лабораторий, которые будут работать по интересным для обеих сторон направлениям. Точками соприкосновения здесь стали космические технологии мониторинга земной поверхности, проекты в области устойчивого развития, в том числе в таком новом направлении, как «smart mobility» («разумной мобильности») и другие. Поэтому гостям были представлены презентации программы создания и вывода на орбиту наноспутников КПИ; проекта создания космической группировки микроспутников для дистанционного зондирования Земли; проектов, реализуемых в Мировом центре данных, в том числе и исследований в области научного предвидения - Форсайта. Кроме того, гостям была предоставлена информация о структуре и деятельности Инновационной экосистемы «Sikorsky Challenge» и о проекте создания «Политеко Сайенс Сити».

В заключение участники встречи затронули некоторые вопросы по организации работы совместных лабораторий и договорились подготовить конкретные предложения относительно их создания.

President Poroshenko's performance disapproved by 76% of Ukrainians

Data from the Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the Razumkov Center show that a large majority of the Ukrainian public distrust the Poroshenko regime.

In recent opinion polls only 2% and 1% of Ukraine's citizens trust the Groisman government and the Supreme Council respectively. According to data from the center of social research Sofia, 76% of respondents disapprove of the way Poroshenko is handling his job as president.

Most Ukrainians believe politics these days are nothing but skullduggery in this country. At the same time, some analysts think Ukrainian politicians are like field marshals facing defeat. They refuse to admit they might have been wrong.

Clean Water Lab opens at KPI, supported by Government of Turkey

The Government of Turkey and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine signed the Agreement on Technical and Financial Cooperation in 2002.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) under the Cabinet of Turkey acts as representative of the Government of Turkey in Ukraine to implement the provisions of this Agreement through programs and projects funded by Ankara.

The TIKA has already provided the Kiev Polytechnic Institute (KPI) named for Igor Sikorsky with several projects. The Clean Water Laboratory was inaugurated at the Chemical Engineering Department on October 24 within the framework of the one of them. It was the TIKA project that enabled renovation and outfitting of the lab with the latest equipment.

During the inauguration of the Clean Water Laboratory, Haсi Bayram Bolat, TIKA Project Coordinator in Ukraine, thanked the Igor Sikorsky KPI administration for synergy, and expressed his hope for further constructive and fruitful cooperation. In fact, plans are in hand to implement new joint projects in the realm of education and scientific innovation, including human dimension projects.

For instance, TIKA draws up the new project that is important to Igor Sikorsky KPI because it is intended for the architectural and artistic renovation of the Academic Council Hall.
